Simple Network Management Protocol
(S-N-M-P)
A set of protocols used to manage networks. Basically, messages (protocol data units) are sent to the network. Agents (SNMP-compliant) devices return data about themselves to the SNMP sender. Due to difficulty in standardization, basically SNMP only reports that a device is functioning properly.
