Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line
(S-D-S-L)
Allows data rates up to 3Mbps over standard phone lines, simultaneously with voice. The same data rates are used in both transmission directions; thus, the "symmetric" in the name. SDSL is primarily a European development. (Also see ADSL.)
