(three-G)
Third-generation wireless cellular phones. These include digital speech plus high-speed data and global roaming. The following terms are also used to describe networks using the 3G specifications: UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network), UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System - in Europe) and FOMA (Freedom of Mobile Multimedia Access - in Japan).
