Second Generation

Digital cellular phones (i.e., second-generation). Second generation GSM - Global System for Mobiles|GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) was first used in the early 1990s in Europe. GSM provides voice and limited data services and uses digital modulation with improved audio quality. Systems called 2.5G were recently introduced enhance the data capacity of GSM and mitigate some of its limitations.
