International Organization for Standardization
(I-S-O)
An international organization responsible for developing international standards for computers. ISO was founded in 1946. ANSI is a member of ISO. ISO is perhaps most "famous" for its OSI seven-layer model for network architecture.
Note: ISO is not really an acronym; it comes from the Greek "iso," meaning equal.
