IBM 1401
A second-generation IBM mainframe computer system. It was placed on the market in 1959 and was used for just under ten years. It had up to 16K of magnetic core memory and up to six tape drives for mass storage. Input was largely by punched card. It was a money-maker for IBM with around 18,000 in use. The IBM System/360 replaced it (the 360 had a 1401 emulator to ease customer transition).
